Tigergate
Just two questions.
How could the (seemingly active and indiscreet) personal life of the world’s most famous athlete—arguably the worlds’ most famous person—escape scrutiny for so long?
Having escaped scrutiny this long, how could a mere National Enquirer story and a “minor traffic accident” break open the floodgates?
My hunch? Reputations and credibility are fragile things. Tiger’s mysterious accident undermined the reputation for perfection that made the National Enquirer story seem so tawdry. Every new allegation lends credibility to the next one.
If it hasn’t already happened, very soon the question will have changed from “Did He?” to “Who Didn’t He?” Not a good place to be.
