Can You Download the Future Today?
There’s a new app for the iPhone: Siri, which is billed as your very own digital personal assistant. I almost ignored the reviews, but on a lark, watched the company’s demo video (posted on LifeHacker).
In a word: the potential for this kind of application is amazing. I’ve downloaded the app, and certainly the examples they show are fit to how Siri is designed, and they reflect a place (San Francisco) with an abundance of available information.
Still. Can you imagine what this kind of technology will be able to accomplish five years or ten years from now? As the Internet becomes more semantically rich—and teams with even more, and more up to date, information—the possibilities boggle the mind.
